Sri Lankan delegation meets ICCI
KOCHI: A six-member business promotion delegation from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka, had a meeting with the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cochin, the other day. The interests of the delegation included export of rubber products, fruits and vegetables, sesame seed, tamarind and pulses and import of cotton yarn, chemicals, synthetic rubber, machinery, rubber process oil, footwear components, hybrid seeds, pulses, onions and potatoes.
While addressing the gathering S Sarath Chandra De Silva, leader of the delegation said that there are great opportunities for investments now in Sri Lanka. He said that with the expansion of the Hambantota port/airport they are expecting more investments and increase in tourist traffic. Welcoming the Sri Lankan delegates Jasbir Singh Chawla, ICCI president, said that the interactive session was organised by the Chamber with the objective of exchanging views on promotional aspects of common interest in the fields of two-way trade, infrastructure and joint ventures.
He also expressed interest in entering into a MoU between the two chambers of commerce. Puvi Domigopillai, consultant to CCC, welcomed the proposal and suggested a reciprocal delegation from ICCI to Sri Lanka and the MoU could be signed during this visit.
